Jef, or should I say "I,” am a Lion-winner, creative thinker, stacker of tall wood, shaker of fine martinis and all-around brand builder for clients and agencies. Following a misspent youth, I've started 2 successful agencies, done heavy lifting for numerous others, worked for clients in the US, Europe and Asia and never, ever, stopped working to improve my book, reel and perspective. Additionally, I think and write about the advertising business, which is something of a novelty these days, and still get the biggest kick out of understanding the unique nature of a business, a category and the people who are striving to excel in both.
Cannes Gold Lion, Communication Arts (multiple advertising and design annuals), multiple One Shows, NPA Athena, multiple ANDYs, London International Advertising Festival, Clios, IBAs, Mobius(s), Radio Mercury and more than 150 other competitive awards. 2004 – 07 honors include: Various Gold Addys for TV, print ads, websites, One Show finalist (poster), Clio Shortlist (website), Graphis 2005 Annual (magazine), Archive Magazine etc...(television).
Writing on advertising: “We Feel Too Good for Our Own Good,” “Out of the Debris – Rebuilding America’s Economic Reputation,” “When We Were Hot, The Great Brain Drain – Creative Advertising is Flourishing In Other Places” (all San Francisco Chronicle), “The Selling of America” (San Francisco Chronicle and Shots Magazine (U.K.)), “In Praise of The Jagged Edge,” (Media & Marketing/Europe), “Make Ads Not War” (Shots Magazine (U.K.), “After the Party’s Over” (Adweek), “In Defense of Liberty” (Adweek). “The USA @ Cannes: Stop Me Before I Digress Again.”(Shots Magazine (U.K.), “Unoriginal Sin” (Ad Age’s Creativity Magazine) and some fairly lame poetry when I was in high school and college.
